“My constant fear is when you‘ve got a heavy flow that comes all of a sudden and are in the middle of nowhere. This piece was created on my heavy flow to help me cope with constantly fearing leaking in public. The cultural visibility of this has helped me accept and normalise things that were seen as a taboo in my upbringing.”
Nicole Chui is a 24 year old Hong Kong born, London based embroidery artist. Her body of work consists of original hand embroidered photographs and illustration pieces with portraits of faces and anything really. It’s messy, brash and disruptive. Generally, it’s a loud and humorous take on expressing exaggerated emotions from raging anger to feeling overjoyed. In 2018, Nicole took the leap to fully focus on her art, growing roster of clients including Nike, Converse, Gal-dem, Now gallery, and BBC. Last year, she was honoured by the Evening Standard as one of their chosen ’25 future faces 25 and under’ in the Progress 1000 list.
