As part of our goal to attract and advocate to a wider audience, whilst also raising as much money as possible for Irise, this year we wanted to put our key fundraising event, the DJ night ‘Moonrise’ on the map for student nights out in Sheffield. A major part of this “revamp” was moving the night to Yellow Arch Studios which has a larger capacity than our previous venue, The Harley. We also joined forces with our friends at Sheffield DJ label, Pretty Pretty Good, who have often DJed at past Moonrises’, to create an official collaborated event in the hope that having a big local name on the event would help to give Moonrise an extra boost onto the Sheffield event circuit. The various logistical, financial and bureaucratic stresses all paid off and our first Moonrise at Yellow Arch was a huge success, raising nearly £780 for Irise – it was also a very fun night!
In amongst these larger fundraisers we also put on quiz nights – always, of course, including a round on topics surrounding period poverty and gender inequality more broadly, in order to raise awareness at the same time. These have always been a success and great fun, often they are so busy there are not enough tables and some teams have to sit on the floor at the back!
We're thrilled to announce that we raised a grand total of £3,587.30 for Irise this academic year, that's another 700 girls empower to stay happy and healthy during their periods!
