This March we are breaking barriers and tackling poverty so that women and girls around the world can define their own futures.
We believe that women and girls should have the freedom to define who they are and what they want to be. Too often, they are held back from realising their full potential by the society in which they live. Join us to celebrate women and girls who are defining a new future and help us push for progress for everyone.
This blog series celebrates the girls who are defining their own futures, the young women who are changing lives and the women who are leading the way...
Leading the way...
Our Country Manager, Izela is leading the way for women and girls:
Since joining the Irise Uganda team in 2017 Izela has enabled hundreds of girls to realise their full potential.
She joined Irise because she wanted to amplify the voices of those that too often go unheard. After moving back home to Uganda from the UK, she noticed that a large proportion of the ‘out of school youth’ were girls and wanted to support Irise’s work to enable girls to stay in school.
Her team now work hand in hand with the community to create menstruation friendly schools where girls can excel. By enabling girls to access sanitary products and information about puberty and working to promote positive attitudes to menstruation she helps to ensure girls are comfortable and confident all month long.
